New figures show increase in the number of children awaiting adoption while the number of placement orders has fallen
1 October 2019New data from the Adoption and Special Guardianship Leadership Board shows 1.9% increase in the number of children waiting to be adopted in the UK. The latest figures also reveal a 8% decline in the number of placement orders.
The key headlines from the Q3 20-18/19 Adoption and Special Guardianship Leadership Board:
- A further increase in the number of children waiting to be adopted in the UK. At the end of December 2018 there were 2750 children waiting with a placement order not yet placed with an adoptive family.
- The number of placement orders has fallen from 920 in Q2 2018/19 to 850 in Q3 2018/19;
- Registrations to become an adopter have increased from 800 in Q2 2018/19 to 920 in Q3 2018/19; an increase of 15%
- The number of families approved for adoption has increased from 670 in Q2 2018/19 to 780 in Q3 2018/19; an increase of 16%
