First4Adoption welcomes ‘It’s All About Me’ adoption support scheme

First4Adoption has welcomed the announcement of a new scheme to help find loving homes for children who often find it harder to find adoptive families, which is being launched in Westminster today. The “It’s All About Me” (IAAM) scheme is designed to provide extra support for families seeking to adopt children who have often been overlooked because of their age, their ethnic background and because they wish to be placed for adoption with their siblings. Under the IAAM scheme, adoptive parents will be offered a range of therapeutic support, including specific parenting training tailored to their children’s needs and 24-hour support for the first two-years to reduce the risk of the adoption breaking down.

IAAM has been developed by the Consortium of Voluntary Adoption Agencies and professional services firm Baker Tilly. It is being run by a national network of 18 adoption agencies and is funded by a social impact bond, meaning that investors will get a financial return on their investment if the adoption placements are a success after two years. The scheme initially aims to find placements for 100 children a year, but it hoped that eventually it will place around 300 children every year.
